Sophia & El Kronox are Argentine Tango dancers based in Ann Arbor, MI. They have been dancing together since 2015. They have performed together at the Detroit Dance City Festival, Detroit Dance Race, Argentine Tango Detroit, City Style Tango, the University of Michigan, as well as many other venues throughout the Metro Detroit Area. Sophia & José hold Argentine Tango classes and Milongas in Ann Arbor on a weekly basis.
José Luis Fernández-Garcia
José was born and raised in Málaga, Spain. He came to the United States in 1998 and started teaching Spanish at the University of Michigan. José has been dancing Argentine Tango for over a decade. Some of his most influential tango teachers are Patricia Greve and Avik Basu. José also has a background in martial arts. He studied Bagua under Victor Chao. José has made many connections between tango and martial arts. José also has a background in Theatre. He has performed in Shakespeare in the Arb for many years under the direction of Kate Mendeloff.
Sophia grew up in Plymouth, MI. She started dancing at the age of 3 when her dad signed her up for ballet lessons. Sophia has studied tap, jazz, ballet, modern, and hip hop dance. Sophia received her B.A. in Theatre from Hope College. After graduation, Sophia trained with a devised theatre company called Double Edge. After her time at Double Edge Theatre, Sophia discovered Argentine Tango and absolutely fell in love with it. Sophia is a former company member of Ballet Edge Detroit. She is also a certified personal trainer. Sophia brings her training in Ballet, Argentine Tango, and Theatre together to create performances that are beautiful and engaging.
